The older classes in SHNS celebrated St Brigid’s Day today by making St Brigid’s Day Crosses out of rushes. As legend has it, it is thought that the St Brigid Day Cross keeps evil, fire and hunger from homes it which is displayed…….
But aside from the legend, Brigid is said to have sat by the bed of an old pagan chieftain, consoling and calming him and it is here that she picked up the rushes from the floor and began weaving them into the distinctive cross pattern. Whilst she weaved, she explained the meaning of the cross to the sick Chieftain and it is thought her kind calming words brought him great peace.
