SHNS SCHOOL UNIFORM

A school uniform can play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining a school identity. It can contribute to setting an appropriate tone, instil pride, ensure pupils of all races and backgrounds feel welcome and protect children from external pressures to dress in a particular way.

SHNS asks each child to wear our school uniform. This is very beneficial to the children, and it is important that every effort is made to ensure your child is wearing our full school uniform as it encourages children to develop a sense of responsibility and belonging.

Pupils can choose to wear either the school uniform or tracksuit listed below with the exception of ‘Uniform Free’ days that we may have from time to time.

Uniform:-

Navy Blue V-Neck Jumper / Cardigan
Dark Grey Trousers / Skirt / Pinafore / Tailored Shorts
Light Blue Shirt
Navy Tie
Navy/Grey Tights / Socks

Tracksuit:-

Navy Tracksuit Bottoms/Plain Navy Cotton/Jersey Shorts
Navy Round Neck Sweatshirt
Light Blue Polo Shirt

For warmer weather, navy cotton/jersey shorts can be worn with a light blue polo shirt. Children who do not wish to wear shorts during the warmer months, should wear the navy tracksuit bottoms.

Our school uniform items may be purchased from many stores including Tesco, Dunnes, Pennys, Marks & Spencers etc.

Jewellery/Watches/Glasses

If wearing jewellery, we would encourage pupils to wear a simple stud earring. Dangling / long / looped earrings, bracelets and necklaces can prove hazardous for health and safety reasons e.g. during Physical Education (PE) lessons.

Regular watches are permitted however, pupils may be required to remove watches during PE and other activities where the class teacher deems it a health and safety risk.

Children with glasses should bring their storage case to school so they can be stored safely and securely.

Labelling of Uniforms/Belongings

Parents should ensure that all items are adequately labelled with their child’s details.

Lost property

A lost property box is located in the school office. Unclaimed lost property is sent to charity shops/donated to clothing collections at least twice yearly.

Many thanks to our pupils, parents and staff for their help in promoting our school uniform which forms part of our strong identity here in SHNS.
